Byrd Farm Enterprise, Llc

Columbia, Virginia

About Byrd Farm Then In the mid-1800's, Jacob Stoneman sent his son, Philip, from Ohio to purchase farmland in Virginia. Philip purchased what would become known as The Byrd Farm in the western portion of Goochland County. The original farm encompassed several thousand of acre and supported several families. Byrd Farm has enjoyed a rich agricultural history and was known primarily as a cattle operation and for the supporting grain and forage crops. A dairy operation began in 1949 and continued into the early 1960's. The 1970's saw the advent of an expanded livestock operation. About Byrd Farm Now...A Family Tradition Though most of the farm was subsequently divided and sold, the land is still producing grain and forage crops and has managed to retain its rural character. Philip, the great- grandson of Jacob, is actively growing produce today and is indeed a family operation. Philip and his wife, Debra, along with their three children all work together year round, concentrating on using recognized organic standards to produce high-quality, seasonal vegetables. A Growing Philosophy As in the early days of the farm, we know the importance of treating our earth with respect as we incorporate sustainable agricultural practices in our approach to farming. As we work to preserve our rural heritage, we grow as nature intended...avoiding harsh chemicals and poisons. We know that what will do today will be our childrens' legacy tomorrow. Consumer Supported Agriculture At Its Finest We are the founding family and primary growers for Rural Virginia Market CSA. Besides our Certified Naturally Grown vegetables and fruit, a group of neighboring, like-minded producers contribute eggs, poultry, cheese, honey, and pasta as add-on shares for our CSA subscribers.
