Our blueberry operation began in 1994 after clearing an acre plot in the woods of East Texas. We have acidic soil well suited for blueberry production. A well supplies a drip irrigation system and we heavily mulch with cedar. Plants are fertilized with organic mixtures each spring and fall. We prune each winter to open up the plants to produce large, delicious berries. The orchard has been progressively enlarged to two acres with about 300 plants. Berries are harvested mainly during June each year. We pick each day to discourage supplying food for the deer and squirrels. But we encourage our regular customers to come and pick. The orchard has a good stand of centipede grass in many areas which keeps weeds down and provides a pleasant carpet for easy access to the plants.
