Golden Bear Ranches
Lodi, California
Golden Bear Ranches is a division of J. L. Gibson, Inc. and was formed in 2007 by John Gibson, its founder and President. John’s love of farming, as evidenced by some of the highest quality farm-fresh produce grown in Northern California, is a tribute to his great-grandmother, Elvezia Scolari Gibson, who along with his great-grandfather, George Bannister Gibson, were life-long cherry, walnut and vegetable farmers. Six generations ago, a young Eliseo Morinini Scolari, Elvezia's father, was himself a farmer in Locarno, Switzerland — a few miles north of the Italian border -- when he decided to migrate with his wife and children to America. After surveying the new opportunities and challenges that came with his new citizenship, Eliseo and his family settled on a small farm in California’s bountiful San Joaquin Valley in the early 1900s. He instilled in his daughter, Elvezia, a passion for farming which has now been passed down to John who carries on their tradition in the name of Golden Bear Ranches. John Gibson and his team of dedicated employees are gratified to send their farm-fresh sweet cherries and heirloom tomatoes to a host of the finest, award-winning restaurants in Northern California, including many in Napa, Yountville, Rutherford, St. Helena, Sacramento, Stockton and Lodi. Elvezia Scolari Gibson would no doubt be proud of her young, hard-working great-grandson as her spirit lives on in the form of John Gibson’s personal dedication and commitment to Golden Bear Ranches and each of its many customers.
