We grow using organic and sustainable inputs and methods including open-pollinated, non-GMO seed, no chemical fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides, crop rotation and use of row cover, composting, biodegradable pots and packaging, harvesting rainwater and solar energy.
Annual, perennial, herb and veggie plants are for sale at our annual open house, the last weekend in May and also at the Sheboygan Farmer's market starting in June.
The Urbanfarmer CSA delivers 20 weekly shares, market style, to our shareholders starting in June.
Produce is picked, washed, and delivered within 24 hours and travels less than 3 miles to our pick up site. Shares are delivered market style. On pickup day each member brings their own bag and shops for their share. This gives our members the freedom to choose which items they will use and reduce the waste/guilt that comes with a pre-packaged share that sometimes includes something you don't want/need. Also, delivery of the shares market style reduces labor and packaging costs and the effect that hundreds of plastic bags have on the environment. Some items are still individually packaged, such as lettuce mix, in biodegradable bags. In addition, the market style distribution makes it easier for us to separate/store items that do and do not need to be refrigerated and transport any leftovers to local food pantries. We believe this is the most practical, efficient and sustainable way to deliver high quality organic produce at an affordable rate.
