Swauk Prairie Produce
Cle Elum, Washington
Swauk Prairie Produce is a small farm located 10 miles NE of Cle Elum, WA, with emphasis on quality produce. Our growing season is somewhat limited by weather conditions; late arrival of spring and the ever present winds. Having worked around these conditions with different crop protections we are able to grow a variety of produce that include; lettuce, carrots, beans, swiss chard, peas, kale, arugula, dill, onions, garlic, shallots, radishes, and mustard greens. 2012 was a great growing year for Swauk Prairie Produce; with an expansion of an addition 3,000 sq feet of garden in the field west of the existing garden. This section has no fencing around it, leaving it open to browsing by our local residents; deer, wild turkey and sometimes the elk. I found that onions do not appeal to deer one bite and that's it. Most of the greens were gone by the time came around in the fall. The new garden allowed more space for my leafy crops in the fenced space. Being a Certified Naturally Grown grower is important to us as it provides our customers healthy eating choices. It's a great way of assuring quality without the cost and hassle of being "Government Certified." Our primary garden nutrient is "Star Power" from my horse Star and his pasture pal Adonis. Again last year our big seller at the local Farmers Markets was our selection of gourmet pickles that incorporate our own award winning garlic and dill. The cukes come from another Washington producer (since we are unable to produce 1200 lbs ready in a day). These gourmet pickles are entirely Washington grown.(This listing was last updated on April 19, 2013)
