Chicago Honey Co Op
Chicago, Illinois
Since 2004 Chicago Honey Co-op has been keeping bees on an abandoned industrial property in Chicago's North Lawndale neighborhood. We keep anywhere form 50 to 75 hives an any given year and take the honey and other products from the hive to two farmers markets in Chicago. While our original mission was as a job training program, our focus has evolved over time into a long term relationship within the community with emphasis on education and opportunities for growing food and healthy eating. Our partners, The North Lawndale Greening Committee manage the onsite community farm where individuals and groups can have their own growing space. We feel privileged to have worked in the neighborhood for as long as we have and have developed lasting relationships as a result.(This listing was last updated on February 01, 2012)
